Softball Recap: Southern Aroostook Wins Going Away Against Fort Fairfield

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southern Aroostook). They put the hurt on the Fort Fairfield Tigers with a sharp 17-2 win on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Warriors with their most commanding win of the season.

Brooke Shields made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Hope Curry was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Bethany Schmidt, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one run.

Southern Aroostook was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Southern Aroostook's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Fort Fairfield, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Southern Aroostook wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 12-8 win against Washburn on the 7th. As for Fort Fairfield, they have also already played their next match, a 19-8 defeat against Hodgdon on the 8th.
