MAST Academy hasn't had much luck against Coral Reef recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Makos will take on the Barracudas at 3:00 p.m. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.
MAST Academy came up short against Goleman on Wednesday, falling 3-0.
MAST Academy was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Goleman work for it, especially in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 25-22, 27-25.
Despite their defeat, MAST Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Mia Davey, who had 14 assists, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariadna Ros, who had 11 assists and two aces.
Meanwhile, Coral Reef suffered their biggest loss since September 3rd on Tuesday. They lost 3-0 to Coral Gables.
Coral Reef took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-13, 25-20, 25-21.
Coral Reef's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for MAST Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: MAST Academy has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.1 aces per game. However, it's not like Coral Reef struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
MAST Academy suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Coral Reef in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. Can the Makos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
