Basketball Recap: LaCrosse Leopards vs. Macksville Mustangs
The LaCrosse Leopards can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent contest on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 69-48 margin over Macksville. The win was nothing new for LaCrosse as they're now sitting on five straight.
LaCrosse's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lee Holopirek led the charge by going 7 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points and 4 assists. Holopirek continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Skillett, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Macksville lost, one person who can't be blamed is Diego Esparza. Despite the final result, he scored 23 points along with two steals. That was a full 47.9% of Macksville's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ty Clawson was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
LaCrosse is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. As for Macksville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.
LaCrosse will be playing at home against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ness City will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 290th, while the Leopards are ranked 77th). As for Macksville, they will head out on the road to face off against the Knights at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Victoria is on a four-game streak of home wins, the Mustangs a 14-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
