Saint Francis has gone a perfect 10-0 against Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lancers will challenge the Fightin' Irish at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Saint Francis has 12 straight wins, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Saint Francis is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Presentation 19-2 on Wednesday. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 matches by six runs or more this season.
Saint Francis got a great performance from Hailey Nguyen as she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Nguyen has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Saint Francis let Ava Bulanti and Hayden Hummel run wild. Bulanti went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Hummel went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Bulanti has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaime Oakland, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Saint Francis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Presentation only posted an OBP of .318.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory's offense. They fell 5-0 to St. Ignatius College Preparatory on Wednesday.
Saint Francis' victory was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Saint Francis hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Saint Francis' way against Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in their previous matchup back in April, as Saint Francis made off with a 17-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lancers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
