Lake Stevens is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will face off against the Glacier Peak Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. Lake Stevens will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
While Lake Stevens' win against Monroe wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Lake Stevens skirted past Monroe 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings have posted since May 13, 2024.
Mara Sivley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emerson Cummins, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Reese Breckenridge also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Lake Stevens was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monroe only posted a batting average of .321.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Glacier Peak). They blew past Edmonds-Woodway 11-2 on Monday. The Grizzlies have beaten the Warriors the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Warriors has come to flipping the script.
Glacier Peak also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Emma Hirshorn gave up two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 16 Ks. Furthermore, Hirshorn didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Alexis Garcia was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Morgan Udy was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Glacier Peak's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Lake Stevens, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lake Stevens has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Glacier Peak struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lake Stevens couldn't quite finish off Glacier Peak when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can Lake Stevens avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
