Baseball Game Preview: Schurr Spartans vs. Bell Gardens Lancers

For the second straight game, Schurr will face off against Bell Gardens. The Spartans will head out on the road to challenge the Lancers at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Schurr will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Schurr barely beat Bell Gardens the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Lancers on Tuesday. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.

Logan Trevino was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over six innings pitched. Schurr is undefeated when Trevino allows one or fewer hits, but 8-14 otherwise. Trevino was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joseph Hernandez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Schurr's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 7-14 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Joseph Tapia, who went 2-for-3 with three runs.

Schurr always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bell Gardens only posted an OBP of .304.

Schurr's record now sits at 11-14. As for Bell Gardens, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.
