Preview: Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes vs. West Brunswick Trojans
After two games on the road, Cape Fear Academy is heading back home. They will take on the West Brunswick Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, a fact Cape Fear Academy proved two weeks ago. They claimed a resounding 62-30 win over New Life Christian Academy on the road. Given Cape Fear Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while New Life Christian Academy is ranked 170th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cape Fear Academy can attribute much of their success to Domas Undzenas, who scored 19 points along with 8 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kareem Anderson, who scored 10 points along with 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, West Brunswick blew past South Columbus, posting a 66-26 victory at home.
West Brunswick got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jude Surigao out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Surigao has scored at least 25% of West Brunswick's points. Another player making a difference was Tristen Roberts, who scored 11 points along with 7 steals and 6 rebounds.
Cape Fear Academy's victory lifted them to 3-0 while New Life Christian Academy's loss dropped them down to 2-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Cape Fear Academy and West Brunswick are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Cape Fear Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 72.3 points per game. However, it's not like West Brunswick struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 59.7 per game.
