Football Game Preview: Sabetha Bluejays vs. St. Marys Bears

The Sabetha Bluejays will head out to face off against the St. Marys Bears on Friday. Sabetha will be strutting in after a win while St. Marys will be coming in after a defeat.

Sabetha was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Oskaloosa on Friday. The Bluejays blew past the Bears, posting a 42-0 victory. The Bluejays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 27 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 6-6 at halftime, St. Marys was not quite Council Grove's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell just short of the Braves by a score of 14-12. The Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Even if they lost, St. Marys' defense still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Mason Mayhew was especially locked on to Council Grove's QB and sacked him three times. With that strong performance, Mayhew is now averaging an impressive 6.3 total tackles per game.

Sabetha pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 29.4 points over those games. As for St. Marys, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Sabetha might still be hurting after the 24-3 defeat they got from St. Marys when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Bluejays avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
