Baseball Recap: Palm Bay Sets Scoring Season-High Against Cocoa

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Palm Bay). They never let the Cocoa Tigers get on the board and left with a 14-0 win on Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Pirates considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Nolan Werle and Jayden Runkel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Werle struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Runkel tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Werle a new career-low in earned runs (zero). At bat, Werle went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run, while Runkel scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Werle a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, Jacob Hines was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Miguel Martinez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Palm Bay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cocoa only posted an OBP of .263.

Palm Bay's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Cocoa, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Palm Bay will challenge Heritage at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cocoa, they will face off against Astronaut at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cocoa is facing Astronaut at the right time seeing as Astronaut is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
