Basketball Recap: Mater Brickell Academy Comes Up Short

Mater Brickell Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-45 heartbreaker at the hands of the Pinecrest Prep Crocs. The Bulls were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Crocs' earlier this season, when they won 62-57.

When it comes to explaining why Mater Brickell Academy lost, don't look at Antonio Medina. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Medina has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. David Jimenez was another key player, putting up seven points and six rebounds.

Pinecrest Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gabriel Guzman led the charge by going 8 for 11 on his way to 20 points and five assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Guzman has scored at least a third of Pinecrest Prep's points. Another player making a difference was Aidan Rivero, who scored ten points and four steals.

Mater Brickell Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-17. As for Pinecrest Prep, their victory ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 9-13.

Mater Brickell Academy has already played their next match, a 66-45 loss against Coral Park on the 28th. As for Pinecrest Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-42 win against Westland Hialeah on the 28th.
