Amanda Wiley leads Yuma Catholic to victory over Central

Recap: Yuma Catholic Shamrocks vs. Central Spartans

The Yuma Catholic Shamrocks won the last time they faced the Central Spartans, and things went their way on Thursday too. Yuma Catholic came out on top against Central by a score of 51-38. Given Yuma Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 145th in Arizona, while Central is ranked 888th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Amanda Wiley continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Yuma Catholic's points. Another player making a difference was Kimora Coleman, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Victoria Zamora and Mya McClain certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Zamora scored 14 points along with four steals, while McClain dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Zamora hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Julianna Estrada was another key contributor, scoring no points along with five assists and two steals.

The victory makes it two in a row for Yuma Catholic and bumps their season record up to 9-7. As for Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-10.

Yuma Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next game is against American Leadership Academy - West Foothills at 5:30 p.m. on January 12th. As for Central, they will be playing at home against Calexico at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
