Basketball Recap: Buckeye Valley Starts off Right with Win over Columbus School for Girls

Buckeye Valley gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They walked away with a 39-29 win over the Columbus School for Girls Unicorns. The Barons haven't had any issues with the Unicorns recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Buckeye Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avelina Wagner, who posted seven points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. Wagner is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 17 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Makayla Bertke, who went 5-for-7 en route to 10 points and six boards.

Buckeye Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 13 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Columbus School for Girls' defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Buckeye Valley will take on Hayes at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Columbus School for Girls, they will challenge Columbus Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
