Football Game Preview: Vintage Crushers vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals + Official Tickets

Vintage hasn't had much luck against Cardinal Newman recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Crushers will head out to square off against the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Vintage 13.6, Cardinal Newman 11.3) so any points scored will be well earned.

On Thursday, Vintage came up short against San Marin and fell 14-3. While losing is never fun, the Crushers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 114th).

Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman came tearing into Friday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.1 points), and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Wildcats 45-13. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Cardinals had established a 25-point advantage.

Cardinal Newman's win came from a few key players Vintage will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Pathoumnourack Malakai, who rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 100.6 rushing yards per game. Brody Estrela was in the mix too, providing Cardinal Newman with two TDs.

One reason for the win was Cardinal Newman's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Dylan Webb was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Jonah Bertoli got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Vintage's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Cardinal Newman, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

Vintage was dealt a bruising 33-0 loss at the hands of Cardinal Newman when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Crushers, Jamari Gentry (who rushed for 198 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries, and also picked up 40 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time.
