Football Recap: Laurel Takes Down Chartiers-Houston in a Playoff Battle + How To Watch

With a playoff win on the line, Laurel rose to the challenge on Friday. They strolled past the Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers with points to spare, taking the game 40-21. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Buccaneers are ranked 263rd) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Kolton Carlson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 116 yards on only nine carries, while also picking up 53 receiving yards. His longest rush was for an impressive 53 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Laurel was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 294 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 193 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

Laurel's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Tyler Fuchs was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three sacks himself. Those three sacks set a new season-high mark for him.

Laurel's record is now 11-1. As for Chartiers-Houston, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 8-4 record.

Coming up, Laurel will take on Fort Cherry at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Spartans 9.1, the Rangers 9.4) so any points scored will be well earned. Chartiers-Houston does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
