Baseball Game Preview: Great Oak Wolfpack vs. Chaparral Pumas

For the second straight game, Great Oak will face off against Chaparral. The Wolfpack will take on the Pumas at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Great Oak has three straight wins, Chaparral has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Great Oak's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Chaparral.

The result came thanks to Roy Kim's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Sam Pink and Brayden Dominguez did most of the damage at the plate: Pink went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI, while Dominguez got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run. That's the most doubles Pink has posted since back in April of 2025. Caden Lee also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Great Oak's win bumped their record up to 9-6-1. As for Chaparral, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Great Oak has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
