Mountain View and Branham are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Mountain View Spartans will challenge the Branham Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain View's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Branham's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Mountain View barely beat Lynbrook the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Mountain View was the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over Lynbrook on Saturday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Spartans' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Brennan Dooley looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, Kyle Shachal was a standout: he scored two runs and stole Two bases. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Preston Huang was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Branham posted their closest victory since April 16, 2024 on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Aragon 3-2. The Bruins haven't had any issues with the Dons recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Branham also got a great performance from Jack Lewis as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Lewis has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Branham saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Vietvu, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Chris Von Barloewen also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Mountain View pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing eight strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.8 in the others. As for Branham, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Mountain View was able to grind out a solid win over Branham in their previous meeting back in March of 2020, winning 4-1. Does Mountain View have another victory up their sleeve, or will Branham turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
