Baseball Game Preview: McGuffey Highlanders vs. Gateway Gators

The McGuffey Highlanders will head out on the road to challenge the Gateway Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

McGuffey was handed a 14-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Ligonier Valley 6-4.

Preston Hornak was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Sam Stout, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Gateway made easy work of Penn Hills on Thursday and carried off an 18-2 victory. The Gators haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Cameron Gottschalk looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

At the plate, Gateway got a massive performance out of Myles Beavin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave Beavin a new career-high. Jon Saunders was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Gateway always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .800. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Penn Hills only posted an OBP of .429.

The victory got McGuffey back to even at 1-1-1. As for Gateway, their record now sits at 2-0.
