Basketball Recap: Blue Hill's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Six

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Blue Hill's strategy against Lawrence-Nelson on Tuesday. The Blue Hill Bobcats took down the Lawrence-Nelson Raiders 45-28. Winning may never get old, but the Bobcats sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Blue Hill had a senior duo take command as Reece Mlady dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards and Ellie Mangers went 6 of 13 on her way to 17 points. Mlady has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lauren Kohmetscher, who posted six points.

Blue Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 offensive boards per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.2.

Despite the loss, Lawrence-Nelson still got an impressive performance from Kara Menke, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 57.1% of Lawrence-Nelson's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Blue Hill's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.5 points per game. As for Lawrence-Nelson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.

Blue Hill and Lawrence-Nelson could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. Blue Hill will square off against Shelton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday down 83 places (132 vs. 49). Meanwhile, Lawrence-Nelson (ranked 222nd) will meet Silver Lake (ranked 75th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
