Preview: York Institute Dragons vs. Polk County Wildcats
York Institute has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Polk County Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
York Institute can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They blew past Wartburg Central 40-7 on the road. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for York Institute's eight-point performance the contest before.
Myles Leffew looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 123 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, and also throwing for 37 yards and a touchdown. Braiden Christianson made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Polk County slipped by Sweetwater 29-28 on Thursday.
Damien McWilliams went supernova for Polk County, rushing for 91 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, while also picking up 87 receiving yards and a touchdown.
York Institute's win was their ninth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.6 points per game. As for Polk County, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. York Institute has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 255.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Polk County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 150.4 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
