Football Recap: DANTE BARRERAS and SANTIAGO SEGURA Lead the Defense for Gadsden Win

Gadsden hadn't done well against Deming recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Panthers blew past the Wildcats 27-7. Considering the Panthers have won five games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

ETHAN MORALES had a dynamite game, throwing for 289 yards and four TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes. That's the most passing touchdowns he has posted since back in September. The team also got some help courtesy of MAURO ALMANZA, who picked up 117 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Gadsden's defense and their six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by DANTE BARRERAS and SANTIAGO SEGURA, who racked up four sacks between them. SEGURA also made five total tackles, which is notable because Gadsden is 6-1 when he posts at least four total tackles, but 0-3 otherwise.

Despite the loss, Deming still got an impressive performance from Joan Ramirez, who picked up 149 receiving yards. Ramirez's receiving production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 109 receiving yards.

The victory made it two in a row for Gadsden and bumps their season record up to 6-4. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.5 points over those games. As for Deming, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-9.

Gadsden has already played their next contest, a 50-0 victory against Capital on the 7th. As for Deming, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 35-14 defeat against Goddard on the 8th.
