Gray's Creek and Union Pines are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Gray's Creek Bears will venture away from home to take on the Union Pines Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Gray's Creek blew Pine Forest out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Wednesday Pine Forest got their revenge. Gray's Creek fell just short of Pine Forest by a score of 11-9.

Tyler Jasinski was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits.

On the hitting side, Ayden Nuzum made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases. Another player making a difference was Davis Reed, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Union Pines had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Everything went their way against St. Pauls on Wednesday as Union Pines made off with a 19-2 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Vikings as it put an end to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Dominic Inocencio looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

At the plate, Willy Rivera was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Brodie Lyczkowski, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Union Pines always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Pauls only posted an OBP of .391.

Gray's Creek took their victory against Union Pines in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gray's Creek since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
