Basketball Recap: Northridge Piles Up the Points Against Weld Central

On Monday, the Northridge Grizzlies blew past the Weld Central Rebels, posting a 47-18 victory. Given the Grizzlies' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while the Rebels are ranked 208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northridge found their leader in sophomore Sophia Carbajal, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Carbajal is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last 22 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey McGeen, who posted six points along with six assists and four steals.

Northridge was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Weld Central only racked up five assists.

When it comes to explaining why Weld Central lost, don't look at Riley Phelps. Despite the final result, she scored five points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Kylee Marchand also deserves some recognition as she scored her first point of the season.

Northridge is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points over those games. As for Weld Central, they dropped their record down to 4-13 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Northridge will challenge Greeley Central at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Weld Central, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 42-39 win against Fort Morgan on the 12th.
