Basketball Recap: Central of Clay County Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Central of Clay County had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They were dealt a 61-32 defeat at the hands of the Oxford Yellow Jackets on Wednesday. The Volunteers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-19.

Central of Clay County's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Blair Wheeler, who posted six points. Lashanti Ward was another key player, putting up five points.

TaKayvia Boyd went supernova For Oxford., dropping a double-double with 23 points and 12 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Carter, who shot 60% from the field on her way to 16 points and three steals.

Looking ahead, Central of Clay County will head out on the road to challenge Anniston at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Oxford, they will take on Smiths Station in a tournament on Saturday.
