Basketball Recap: Covert Sets Scoring Season-High Against Our Lady of the Lake Catholic

Covert was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a 29-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Lakers. One positive for the Bulldogs, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Covert's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maeva Martinez, who posted four points in addition to 13 rebounds and three steals. Martinez is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least 11 every time she's taken the court this season. Briana Gallegos was another key player, putting up two points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Covert's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Our Lady of the Lake Catholic, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Covert will head out to square off against Benton Harbor at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Covert is facing Benton Harbor at the right time seeing as Benton Harbor is stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Our Lady of the Lake Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on St. Philip Catholic Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
