The Washington-Wilkes Tigers will square off against the Wilcox County Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On October 2nd, Washington-Wilkes got the win against Lake Oconee Academy by a conclusive 10-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Kennedy Danner made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Washington-Wilkes let Kaidyn Porter and Morgan Dove run wild. Porter went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Dove went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three hits gave Dove a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Molly Dawson, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Washington-Wilkes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Oconee Academy only posted a batting average of .263.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Wilcox County had no problem doing just that on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Red Devils. That's two games straight that the Patriots have won by just one run.
Washington-Wilkes' victory bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Wilcox County, their win bumped their record up to 15-9.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Washington-Wilkes hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Wilcox County struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
