Baseball Game Preview: Whittier Cardinals vs. La Serna Lancers

Whittier hasn't had much luck against La Serna recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cardinals will welcome the Lancers at 3:15 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Whittier fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Garfield on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 9-7. The Cardinals' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Derrick Monreal and Andrew Ruvalcaba stepped up to the plate in a big way. Monreal scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Ruvalcaba scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, La Serna came up short against La Habra on Saturday and fell 8-3.

La Serna saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Becerra, who scored a run while going 1-for-1. Becerra also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another was Dominic Segura, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

La Serna's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Whittier, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.
