Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Mater Dei couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell 3-1 to the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers on Saturday. The Monarchs' defeat signaled the end of their 16-game winning streak.

Layli Ostovar paced Mater Dei's offense, picking up 16 kills. Ostovar got some help from Kalea Lee and her 23 assists. Lee was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.

Madeleine Zaragoza was a one-woman wrecking crew For Sierra Canyon. as she had 16 digs and three aces. Those 16 digs gave Zaragoza a new career-high.

Mater Dei's loss dropped their record down to 31-5. As for Sierra Canyon, the victory was the 17th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 39-3.

Mater Dei wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Redondo Union on the 12th. As for Sierra Canyon, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-1 victory against Mira Costa on the 12th.
