Recap: Stanton Blue Devils vs. KIPP Bold City Greyhounds
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Stanton Blue Devils ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They secured a 59-53 W over KIPP Bold City. The win was familiar territory for Stanton who now have three in a row.
Raza Cottey was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 19 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Stanton's points. Eric Hayes was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, KIPP Bold City saw an underclassman step up: Jayden Marshall scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikell Reddick, who scored ten points.
Stanton pushed their record up to 10-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for KIPP Bold City, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stanton will face off against Fernandina Beach at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. KIPP Bold City on the road again on Friday and play against Christ's Church Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. Christ's Church Academy is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
