Softball Recap: Pinconning Takes a Loss

Pinconning was the 6-1 winner over Gladwin when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Spartans fell just short of the Flying G's by a score of 13-12 on Thursday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Emma McQuarter was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She didn't allow a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

McQuarter wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Layla Foco, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Foco has snagged this season. Another was Laken Gibala, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Pinconning now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Gladwin, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pinconning will challenge All Saints Central at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Gladwin, they will face off against Beaverton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
