Softball Recap: East Union Drops Season-High Score on Sierra

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask East Union). They were the clear victors by a 29-1 margin over the Sierra Timberwolves on Wednesday. With that victory, the Lancers brought their scoring average up to 7.1 runs per game.

Lily Pickering was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Pickering was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabelle Reyes, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Elli Flores was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

East Union was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .591. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

East Union has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Sierra, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Coming up, East Union will square off against Monterey Trail at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Lancers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Sierra, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Central Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
