Basketball Recap: EPIC Academy Sets Scoring Season-High Against Gage Park

EPIC Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 42-36 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gage Park Fighting Owls. One positive for the The Legends, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Despite the defeat, EPIC Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mariah Clark posted 30 points. That was a full 83.3% of EPIC Academy's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaliyah Williams-Ellis, who put up six points.

EPIC Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Gage Park, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.

EPIC Academy and Gage Park's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. EPIC Academy and ACERO Garcia (who has only given up 29.22 points per game) will meet at 5:00 p.m. on January 22nd. EPIC Academy's defense has only allowed 26.5 points per game this season, so Gage Park's offense will have their work cut out for them. Similarly, Gage Park will challenge Dunbar at 5:00 p.m. on January 22nd, a squad that's only allowed 22.36 points per game.
