Basketball Game Preview: San Diego Cavers vs. La Costa Canyon Mavericks

The San Diego Cavers will take on the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

San Diego took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 72-26 victory over Olympian. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-12.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead San Diego to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gianna Woodson, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards gave Woodson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Seniaah Simms, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds.

San Diego smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 16 offensive boards in 12 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely La Costa Canyon's strategy against Mt. Carmel on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Mavericks blew the Sundevils out of the water with an 82-32 final score. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with the Sundevils recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
