Volleyball Recap: Emerson Burgess Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Berea-Midpark

Avon Lake won the last time they faced Berea-Midpark and Danielle Hubert did her part to make sure it happened again. The Shoremen walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Titans on Thursday thanks in part to Hubert, who had 31 digs and three assists. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Avon Lake walked away with the win (and looked especially good in the third set). The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 17-25, 25-13, 25-18.

Avon Lake got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Emerson Burgess out in front who had 15 digs and two aces. Those 15 digs gave Burgess a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Preto, who had eight digs and five aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Avon Lake was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. They are a perfect 8-0 when they serve at least ten aces.

Avon Lake's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-9. As for Berea-Midpark, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

Coming up, after both having extra time off, Avon Lake and Max S. Hayes will shake off the rust and duke it out at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Berea-Midpark, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Fairview on the 11th.
