Football Game Preview: Grant Pacers vs. Oak Ridge Trojans + How To Watch

Grant hasn't had much luck against Oak Ridge recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pacers are taking a road trip to challenge the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Grant is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

Grant is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against Edison by a score of 35-22. The Pacers pushed the score to 28-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Vikings cut but never quite recovered from.

Malikii Lavern and Blake Nycum were among the main playmakers for Grant as the former rushed for 91 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries and the latter threw for 136 yards and one TD while completing 75% of his passes. Nycum's passing game has become a key predictor of the Pacers' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 3-4 otherwise.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Grant proved: they limited Edison to a paltry 2.8 yards per carry. The Pacers' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.86 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 14.8 on average over their last five games.

Meanwhile, Oak Ridge won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Central Catholic 14-13. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 31st, while the Raiders are ranked 119th) , the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Oak Ridge found their leader in sophomore Luke Taber, who rushed for 82 yards and one score on only five carries, and also threw for 65 yards and one touchdown. Taber really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run.

Oak Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Grant, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.

Grant couldn't quite finish off Oak Ridge in their previous meeting back in August of 2023 and fell 21-18. Can the Pacers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
