Basketball Recap: Rayyan Sozzer's Big Game Can't Quite Lead College Prep of America over Universal

College Prep of America had taken Universal down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Thunder fell just short of the Stars by a score of 60-57. The Thunder were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Stars apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

College Prep of America's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rayyan Sozzer, who posted 24 points and eight assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Zayd Ansari, who put up 15 points and seven rebounds.

Universal found their leader in sophomore AbuBakr Hasan, who shot 40% from the field to rack up 17 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. Another player making a difference was Adam Amra, who scored 12 points and six rebounds.

College Prep of America's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Universal, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Looking ahead, College Prep of America will be playing at home against Schaumburg Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Universal, they will venture away from home to take on Islamic Foundation at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
