William Byrd dropped their record down to 6-9 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blacksburg Bruins. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-3 back in March.

As for Blacksburg, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

For Blacksburg's part, Clara McMahon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. McMahon has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Blacksburg's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Katie Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Another was Madelyn Williams, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. William Byrd will face off against Fleming at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Blacksburg, they will challenge Pulaski County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
