Basketball Game Preview: Cannon Cougars vs. Statesville Greyhounds

The Cannon Cougars will face off against the Statesville Greyhounds at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Cannon has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Cannon is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They came out on top against Winston Salem Christian by a score of 73-66 on Friday.

Meanwhile, Statesville ended up a good deal behind Carson on Monday and lost 72-54. The Greyhounds have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Cannon will have to keep a close watch on La'Damien Parker and Manuel (MJ) Gladden, a pair of players who had a big impact on Statesville's prior game. Parker dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds, while Gladden posted 13 points and six steals. Another player making a difference was Jerome Newman, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 10 points and five boards.

Statesville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Cannon, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Everything went Cannon's way against Statesville in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as Cannon made off with an 89-68 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Greyhounds' Kevin Bryant, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
