Basketball Recap: Tavaris Gant's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Clearwater over Carrollwood Day

On Saturday, the Clearwater Tornadoes came up short against the Carrollwood Day Patriots and fell 61-50. The Tornadoes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Tornadoes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tavaris Gant, who posted eight points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Gant a new career-high in rebounds. Kris Foote was another key player, going 5 of 12 on his way to 15 points.

Even though they lost, Clearwater smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Carrollwood Day only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Carrollwood Day's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Moses Allen, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 boards. Another player making a difference was Logan Kanicki, who went 5 for 7 en route to 15 points.

Clearwater's loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Carrollwood Day, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season.

Clearwater will be playing in front of their home fans against Boca Ciega at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clearwater is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.5 points per game this season. As for Carrollwood Day, they will head out to take on Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jesuit will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Carrollwood Day surely won't give up without a fight.
