Basketball Recap: Chardon Comes Up Short

Chardon lost against Riverside back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Chardon Hilltoppers lost to the Riverside Beavers at home by a 61-43 margin. The Hilltoppers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Chardon lost, don't look at Cameron Gerlica. Despite the final result, she went 6 for 9 en route to 17 points. That was a full 39.5% of Chardon's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Addison Deszczykiewicz was another key player, putting up ten points.

Even though they lost, Chardon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in eight consecutive games.

Chardon's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Riverside, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chardon will take on Kenston at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Morgan Cicek and Gerlica. As for Riverside, they will square off against South at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Riverside is facing South at the right time seeing as South is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
