Recap: Morningside Academy Eagles vs. Melbourne Central Catholic Hustlers
After flying high against the Trinity Christian Academy Warriors on Monday, the Morningside Academy Eagles came back down to earth. Morningside Academy took a 31-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of Melbourne Central Catholic. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Morningside Academy has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Morningside Academy lost on Tuesday, one person who can't be blamed is Emmilina Miller. Despite the final result, she scored nine points along with five assists and four steals. Miller is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Giuliana Bonasera, who scored seven points along with 13 rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Melbourne Central Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ahjanae Momperousse, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and seven blocks. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Ari Teeter was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five steals.
Morningside Academy's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Melbourne Central Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morningside Academy will be home for the holidays to greet Jupiter Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Jupiter Christian will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Melbourne Central Catholic, they will play host again and welcome Edgewood, where tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Edgewood is ranked 284th, while Melbourne Central Catholic is ranked 307th).
