Football Game Preview: Maranatha Christian Eagles vs. Mountain Empire Redhawks

The Maranatha Christian Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Mountain Empire Redhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Maranatha Christian comes in on six and Mountain Empire on three.

On Friday, Maranatha Christian took their matchup with ease, bagging a 56-14 win over Victory Christian Academy. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 22 points or more this season.

Maranatha Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was River Contreras out in front who rushed for 74 yards and two scores. Ryan Niguidula was in the mix too, providing the Eagles with two TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Maranatha Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 285 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Maranatha Christian's defense and their 4.5 sacks. Leading the way was Nathan Niguidula with two.

Meanwhile, Mountain Empire got the win against O'Farrell Charter last Friday by a conclusive 29-3. The Redhawks are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the third contest they've won by 20+ points this season.

Maranatha Christian's record now sits at 6-1. As for Mountain Empire, their record is now an identical 6-1.

Everything came up roses for Maranatha Christian against Mountain Empire in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 60-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
