Basketball Game Preview: Jeff Davis Yellowjackets vs. Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane

Jeff Davis hasn't had much luck against Fitzgerald recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Jeff Davis Yellowjackets will face off against the Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane at 7:30 p.m. Jeff Davis is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.5 points per game this season.

Jeff Davis took a loss when they played away from home last Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They put the hurt on Berrien with a sharp 68-48 victory. The Yellowjackets pushed the score to 57-33 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rebels cut but never quite recovered from.

Malachi Smith was his usual excellent self, putting up 24 points. He is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Latrell Sellers, who posted 12 points.

Meanwhile, Fitzgerald hadn't done well against Thomasville recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Fitzgerald came out on top against Thomasville by a score of 59-52.

Fitzgerald's record now sits at 11-3. As for Jeff Davis, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Jeff Davis ended up a good deal behind Fitzgerald in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, losing 46-30. Can Jeff Davis avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
