Preview: South Wake Sabres vs. New Life Camp Storm
South Wake and New Life Camp are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The South Wake Sabres will head out on the road to face off against the New Life Camp Storm at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
South Wake has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 28 points or more this season. They took their contest on the road on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 76-33 victory over DASH. Given South Wake's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while DASH is ranked 405th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Wake found their leader in underclassman Lawson Jurgens, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Webb, who scored nine points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, New Life Camp's good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. They fell 62-55 to Chatham HomeSchool. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points New Life Camp has scored all season.
The victory (which was South Wake's fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for New Life Camp, their loss dropped their record down to 4-1.
South Wake came up short against New Life Camp when the teams last played back in February, falling 56-47. Can South Wake avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
