Softball Recap: Green Run Takes a Loss

Green Run was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 17-16 heartbreaker at the hands of the Norfolk Academy Bulldogs. Even if the Stallions couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Andrea Wilson-Howard was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 5.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Chyann Soule led a balanced group of hitters, scoring five runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Jade Zabala was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, two runs, and one stolen base.

Even though they lost, Green Run was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Green Run's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Norfolk Academy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Looking ahead, Green Run is taking a road trip to challenge Salem at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Norfolk Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Atlantic Shores Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
