Alleghany and Glenvar are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Alleghany Cougars are taking a road trip to square off against the Glenvar Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Alleghany has three straight victories, Glenvar has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Alleghany is headed into the match having just posted their biggest win since January 30, 2024 on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Patrick County with a sharp 62-38 victory. Given Alleghany's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Patrick County is ranked 305th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Glenvar came up short against Carroll County on Friday and fell 77-69.

Alleghany's win bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Glenvar, their loss dropped their record down to 13-6.

Alleghany came out on top in a nail-biter against Glenvar in their previous matchup back in January, sneaking past 58-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for Alleghany since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
