Baseball Game Preview: Oberlin Phoenix vs. Wellington Dukes

Oberlin is 1-9 against Wellington since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Phoenix will be playing in front of their home fans against the Dukes at 5:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Oberlin lost 14-4 to Black River on Wednesday.

Oberlin saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drew Walter, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Jackson Cikalo was another, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Wellington fell victim to Edison and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Chargers, falling 10-0.

Wellington's loss was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-2. As for Oberlin, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Oberlin might still be hurting after the 14-1 loss they got from Wellington in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Phoenix avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
