Football Game Preview: Boyd County Lions vs. Rowan County Vikings + Official Tickets

The Boyd County Lions will head out to square off against the Rowan County Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Neither Boyd County nor Rowan County posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

Boyd County is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest defeat since November 8, 2024 on Friday. They were dealt a 48-7 loss at the hands of Blazer. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Lions' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Meanwhile, Rowan County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were beaten by Johnson Central 63-6. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky football rankings (they are ranked 185th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked eighth).

Boyd County will have to keep a close watch on Bently Barnett and Matthew Hamilton, a pair of players who had a big impact on Rowan County's prior game. Barnett picked up 88 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Hamilton threw for 123 yards and one TD.

Boyd County's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Rowan County, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Everything came up roses for Boyd County against Rowan County in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 49-13 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
