Basketball Recap: Buckeye Takes a Loss

The matchup between Buckeye and Del Norte on Thursday hardly resembled the 35-28 effort from their previous meeting. The Buckeye Hawks lost 68-44 to the Del Norte Nighthawks. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Hawks came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 230th in Arizona, while the Nighthawks are ranked 765th in California).

Buckeye's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Del Norte, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-7 record this season.

Buckeye will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Horizon at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. As for Del Norte, they will be taking part in a tournament against Cypress at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.
