Basketball Game Preview: Wayne County Yellow Jackets vs. Statesboro Blue Devils

The Wayne County Yellow Jackets and the Statesboro Blue Devils will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Wayne County is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.

Wayne County picked up another tournament win on Friday. They took down Telfair County 44-28. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Yellow Jackets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while the Trojans are ranked 41st).

Meanwhile, Statesboro came up short against Vidalia on Friday and fell 49-37. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Wayne County pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.7 points per game. As for Statesboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Wayne County might still be hurting after the 51-27 loss they got from Statesboro in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Thankfully for Wayne County, Alyssa Staten (who dropped a triple-double on 15 points, 21 rebounds, and ten blocks) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
