Softball Game Preview: Pike Road Patriots vs. Opelika Bulldogs

The Pike Road Patriots will take on the Opelika Bulldogs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Opelika took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Pike Road, who comes in off a win.

Pike Road will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Autauga Academy on Friday. Pike Road was the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over Autauga Academy. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Patriots' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Kennedy Cuthbert and Ava Milton did most of the damage at the plate: Cuthbert went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Milton scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, Milton posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mary Hayden Hargrove, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Pike Road was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Autauga Academy only posted a batting average of .083.

Meanwhile, Opelika fell victim to Saint James and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 2-0. The Bulldogs just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.

Opelika's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Pike Road, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Pike Road couldn't quite finish off Opelika in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 and fell 5-3. Can Pike Road avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
